In 2012, we established the CAPE Animal Sanctuary situated in the Sierra Foothills in Grass Valley, California. The sanctuary is a safe haven for injured, disabled animals with special needs who have no other options for a safe place to go. Specializing in animals with disabilities, injuries or treatable medical conditions, the sanctuary can provide safety, comfort and rehabilitation to a variety of species.
CAPE's Burro Rescue Program is a primary focus of our work.
Burros are a part of our American heritage. They form very close family ties within their herds and cruelly rounding them up by chasing them with low flying helicopters is extremely inhumane. Animals, including babies, are often severely injured or die as they are being chased into trap pens.
Meet the burros and donkeys living at the CAPE Animal Sanctuary! Come with us on the road as we partner with American Wild Horse Campaign to rescue Papa Antonio, a wild senior burro who was in a holding pen inside a Nevada Prison.

“"Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society's punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way."
