Platero was brought to the CAPE Animal Sanctuary with his best friend Celina, also a burro. Both were rescued from a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) holding pen in Nevada. At CAPE, the two are never more than a few feet away from each other. Platero (nicknamed Pippy by the CAPE volunteers) resembles Eeyore from the Winnie the Pooh series. Although shy, Pippy is beloved by the CAPE staff and volunteers.
“"Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society's punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way."
~ Martin Luther King, Jr
