At 12+ years of age, Athena wandered the streets alone and hungry. Someone found her dirty and tired in a garage in Watsonville. She was brought to the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter.
Athena is deaf and has dry eye. Vision in her left eye is mostly gone. She is arthritic and has some respiratory issues, Most of her teeth are rotten and will need to be removed.
Today Athena is in a CAPE foster home. She is a sweet girl, who lives to eat! She gets along beautifully with other dogs and is usually a very happy girl. She may have a bit of senility as sometimes she will stand still not knowing where to go. She happily follows her foster mom, wanting to know that she is close by.
Athena has multiple health issues. One thing we are very worried about is that since CAPE rescued her, Athena has suffered from a few seizures. She also is getting over Kennel Cough. For her dry eye, she receives ointment daily. She is also on Proin for urine leakage.
CAPE's veterinarian is determining if Athena can have all her teeth removed. She also may have to have one eye surgically removed as well.
Once she is stabilized, Athena will most likely enter CAPE's Assisted Living Program.
PLEASE SPONSOR ATHENA TO HELP CAPE PROVIDE HER WITH THE CARE SHE NEEDS AND DESERVES.
