We are so sorry to tell you this sad news. Nigel passed away peacefully early yesterday morning. On Monday afternoon we found him looking dazed and confused in his paddock. Our vet came out immediately and took him to her house for close observation. When he continued to become more lethargic, she decided to get him to UC Davis for more diagnostics.
We all suspected that he was starting to have problems due to the liver shunt. He spent two nights at UC Davis and they were very hopeful that they could get his body functioning again - but his little body could not hold up. He passed away in his sleep. According to the vets - he was in no pain or discomfort, which is a blessing. He will always be remembered with such love. And even though he was only with us a short time, he made a big impact on our lives. We will always remember the darling sounds he made when chewing his beloved oak leaves and hay. How he curled up and let us hold him like a baby as he fell asleep. And when we we got him out of bed in the AM, he always knew exactly how to navigate his way behind the barn and in through the back gate to get to his paddock. He was close buddies with Bogart the old turkey and Lorrie, a sweet young goat. We are so sad to lose this precious guy. We knew his life would be short due to the liver shunt - but as always - time with him was just way too short. He will live on in our hearts forever. Rest In Peace, Sweet Nigel.
