🐾Day 6 of CAPE’s Celebrate Senior Animals Week!💜 Often, we meet animals in shelters who are not good candidates for adoption. These animals are older and usually have chronic health conditions or temperament issues that require that they be closely monitored and cared for. Meet some of the amazing senior dogs in CAPE’s Assisted Living Program! Over the years, CAPE has been able to save the lives of dozens of senior animals who were brought into our Assisted Living Program which is designed to provide animals who are not candidates for adoption with permanent foster care in the home of a loving CAPE foster volunteer. Volunteers who sign up for this program make a commitment to care for the animal for the remainder of the animal’s life, and CAPE covers ALL expenses. The huge success of this program has been due to the kindness and commitment of our wonderful volunteer team, who we are deeply grateful for. Every animal, no matter their circumstances deserves the opportunity to thrive long into their lives. CAPE’s Assisted Living Program has provided a wonderful life, free from suffering to many senior animals. We couldn’t do it without YOU, our CAPE community. 💜🐐Day 5 of CAPE’s Celebrate Senior Animals Week! Stella is a very friendly, elderly goat who will live the rest of her life at the CAPE Animal Sanctuary. She loves visiting with people, often coming when called and playfully rubbing against her visitors and wagging her tail. She even smiles when we present treats .
Stella’s in good health and quite independent, exploring the entire goat pasture each day and taking rests in the shade. She is such a sweet girl and we love Stella so much! We could not care for these animals without your support. For 14 years, Toby lived with two other sheep who were his constant companions. When his friends passed away, Toby was left grieving in his pasture alone. Thanks to some wonderful humans, Toby has found a new home at the CAPE Animal Sanctuary and he’s now been welcomed into a whole new family of rescued animals. While his face bears the mark of many years of life behind him, we have all loved watching him transition into his new home for the rest of his golden years. This sweet guy has stolen all of our hearts! Mr. Tobers, as we lovingly call him, follows the CAPE staff during morning chores. He oversees all of their duties, ensuring that they are all up to par. He spends his mornings grazing with the rescued goats and pigs. He findsa cool spot in the afternoon to rest. We’re so thankful that we have the opportunity to provide a wonderful life for this sweet old man. When CAPE staff first laid eyes on Gretta, she was in an isolation kennel at the Front Street Animal Shelter in Sacramento. She had been dropped off as a stray and there was no chance that she would be put up for adoption. Her age was estimated to be around 13 years old. She had multiple tumors all over her body. Her fur was matted with dirt and filth. There was a good chance that Gretta was never going to leave the animal shelter unless CAPE rescued her. So we did. Gretta is now in her CAPE Assisted Living foster home. She is nearly blind and mostly deaf. After she was shaved and groomed, our veterinarian removed two tumors from her body. The tumor on her front leg was determined to be a sarcoma. Gretta also has multiple mammary tumors and we discovered she was never spayed. Now that she lives in CAPE's Assisted Living program, Gretta has settled into a comfortable routine. She will receive all the care and love she needs for the rest of her life. When she is not waddling around the house in her favorite sweaters, Gretta likes to nap in her favorite bed. “"Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society's punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way."
