We need your help with medical care costs for Bree!
This sweet female chihuahua, estimated to be about 7, came into the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter as a stray. Bree’s toenails are painted, so it looks like she had a guardian at one time, but has clearly not been cared for in some time. She has a sizable mass on her face that will need to be removed and she also needs a full dental, plus normal vet checkup, bloodwork and grooming. Two of CAPE’s beloved long-time fosters, Jan and Carlos, went to evaluate this chihuahua and another dog, Ruthie, who Santa Cruz County Shelter asked CAPE to consider. When Jan and Carlos met Ruthie and Bree, both older dogs with pretty substantial medical needs, they agreed to foster both of them. Bree and Ruthie’s medical bills, food and care costs will all be paid for by CAPE for the remainder of their life, thanks to the generosity of our wonderful donors. Now that Bree has settled into her new cozy home in Santa Cruz, she’s meshing well with the other dogs. Shes a bit timid still, but is sweet and interested in playing. Bree had her initial vet appointment this week for bloodwork and to create a care plan- which will include removal and testing of the mass, and a full dental cleaning. Please help us cover the cost of Bree’s surgery and dentistry. We are anticipating that her initial care will will cost more than $3000. Please consider donating today to help support Bree’s care! Thank you so much for helping us save the lives of animals who have special needs. Together, we have saved thousands for the past 30 years! Since 1992 thousands of animals have been rescued, cared for, adopted into loving homes, and given sanctuary by CAPE. I cannot overstate my great appreciation for your generous and continued support over all these years. You are part of the team that provides the vital assistance which enables us to save so many lives. And for this I thank you! Our end of year goal has been to raise $50,000 to help with our ongoing veterinary care, animal care, feed and supplies. As this letter goes to print, we still need to raise $18,000. Your donation today will help us meet that goal. I am happy to tell you that CAPE has continued to advocate, rescue and care for animals despite the restrictions of working during a pandemic. Our outreach and social media platforms are interactive and unique and this year we have had a huge surge in the number of people who engage with us to learn more about what they can do to help animals. The CAPE Animal Sanctuary is bustling and our dog rescue programs continue to focus on saving dogs who have special needs. CAPE currently has 49 animals in our care – many who otherwise would have faced a lifetime of homelessness, neglect, or death. Your generous donations made saving their lives possible! As this very intense and difficult year comes to a close, we at CAPE look forward to 2021 with some new and innovative plans to help animals in the upcoming year. So many people have stepped up to foster animals, to give generously, and to spread the message of CAPE’s mission - Every animal deserves to live a full life free from suffering. I want to wish you all a very happy, healthy New Year and to join with you in the vision and the goal of making our world a compassionate and safe place for all living beings. With much warmth and gratitude, JP Novic, Executive Director Vivi arrived at the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter (SCCAS) in really bad shape. She had multiple deep puncture wounds on her back legs and body, probably from an attack. The veterinary team at SCCAS treated the wounds immediately. She was then placed into a loving CAPE foster home to give her time to heal. And once she started feeling better, her sweet and playful personality began to shine.
We are so thankful to Vivi’s foster guardian for taking such good care and helping her find a wonderful forever home. We think Vivi scored BIG TIME!❤️ |

“"Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society's punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way."
