What happens to the
CAPE animals?
SOPHIE - ADOPTED Sophie was adopted by her foster parent. Sophie had too many health problems to be a good candidate for adoption. Since her foster parent , Rena, lost her old dog in August at the ripe old age of 17, she had room for another older dog. Sophie is very easy to have around. Despite her arthritis she does enjoy her walks . She likes going for rides in the car, and gets along well with the other two dogs and two cats in the house . It is a pleasure to provide her with a comfortable place for her last years.
CHIRIPA
(SWEETIE PIE)
BUDDY - ADOPTED
COWBOY - ADOPTED
KIYA - ADOPTED May 10, 2002 I have found a wonderful home for myself. My parents take me on long walks three times a day. I get to run in the grass with other dogs in the neighborhood. My best friend is Misha a black lab. When I decide that I am bored with my dog food and I don't eat, my mom gets worried and gives me rice and cottage cheese. Boy! Do I have her trained. In the middle of the night, I often wake my mom up with kisses and paws in her face.I don't know if she really appreciates my late hour antics, but I always get her to laugh. My family loves me unconditionally and their training is going well.
MARGIE - ADOPTED
TIGERLILY - ADOPTED
MISTY - ADOPTED 1/30/02 Misty has now been in her new home for a few months. She seemed pretty comfortable from the moment she walked in. Misty and her dog companion, Molly eat and sleep together. Misty is also very sweet with Candy, a little old blind and deaf cocker spaniel. This lovely lady loves her daily walks, but also can often be seen lounging on the easy chair in the living room. When not snoozing she spends her time following Jeannie, her guardian from room to room. Jeannie writes, " We love her dearly and do believe she is very happy with us." Indeed she is!
MIDNIGHT
- ADOPTED Midnight was brought into the Santa Cruz SPCA shelter in January by her human companion who had actually adopted her from the shelter 8 years before when Midnight was 2. Unfortunately her family could no longer keep her due to some unfortunate circumstances. Although older, Midnight appeared very adoptable with her sweet temperament and beguiling ways. After a few weeks at the shelter, where Midnight was all right but obviously stressed from the situation and appeared depressed, the SPCA animal services people were anxious to see Midnight taken to a home. CAPE rescued her on January 27 and brought her to a foster home with Ted and Cleva. After a short time, they fell in love with her. She is so easy and made her self part of the family ( two humans and 5 cats ) almost immediately. I think Midnight knew her foster family was who she wanted to stay with. Her plans came to fruition. Ted and Cleva expressed their desire to give this wonderful older lady a permanent home.
RUBY AND
SAPPHIRE (SAFFY) - ADOPTED
Lacy - ADOPTED
Lacy was brought into the shelter under circumstances which were not altogether clear. What was crystal clear was that this was a wonderful older "lady" who needed to be fostered and treated for heart worm. When Lacy left the shelter on January 4th, the Santa Cruz SPCA staff cheered with delight; she had captured everyone's heart. This fantastic 117 pound Retriver mix seemed comfortable in her foster home from the beginning. She immediately used the doggy door ( a tight fit ) to go out into the backyard to relieve herself. She greeted the other dogs and cats in the house with a simple nod and began her first night out of the shelter with a hearty dinner. One of the volunteers at the shelter bathed Lacy for two hours but had barely scratched the surface of this very dirty dog. One of the groomers at Shampoo Chez donated her services. I could not believe how beautiful Lacy looked after being bathed and groomed. Unfortunately Lacy had heart worm but luckily it was not a severe case. She was treated the week of January 7th and is doing well. In a few more weeks she will be free to exercise as much as she wants. For now, she must take it easy which is not too difficult for her to do. She loves going on short walks and riding in a car but her favorite activity is having someone to lie next to her and pet her. A few days after Lacy was placed in foster care, Trae and his mother Dawn came to see her. They had decided to do what they could and be her sponsor. During the next few days, Dawn and Trae could not stop thinking about this wonderful dog. They contacted J.P. Novic of CAPE, and offered to adopt her. The offer was heartily accepted. What a wonderful life she has with her new adopted family. She even has another dog and a cat to be with as well as her human companions. Lots of time is devoted to hugging Lacy and making sure she has an ideal life! Thanks so much to Lacy's new family for caring and extending this welcome to her. Lacy we know will repay you with an an immeasurable amount of love and devotion.
