What happens to the CAPE animals?

2003-2005

Adopted!

Smokey

Smokey is a 68 pound, mature adult, neutered, Golden Retriever/Black Labrador who has a spirit and heart that enchants every human he meets. Smokey had a sad start to his life, which had been spent tied to an overhead dog “run” cable in the yard. No toys, no companionship, no trips to the park, no friends and no family to love him. In spite of his past Smokey harbors no ill will towards humans. This incredibly friendly dog is ready for a second chance and he certainly deserves it!

He is a super friendly guy who’s had a rough start through no fault or shortcoming on his part. I believe in the right home this dog will blossom and will be a great companion. Ideally, he would enter a home where there is only one other dog or where he is the only dog. The family would need lots of time to spend with him in training and on walks. Help us write a happy ending to this story! Please call Raven Stevens at 831-425-5633.

Adopted!

Rosita

Rosita is an adorable little girl who is a spayed, terrier mix and approximately one year old. She is healthy and weighs about 15 pounds. She has excellent manners, is house trained, and loves people and other dogs. Rosita is looking for her forever home. She is so sweet that she will melt your heart. Call CAPE for more information about her at (831) 336-4695.

Adopted!

Chili and Kiki

Chili and Kiki are a brother/sister team born and raised in beautiful Happy Valley in the Santa Cruz Mountains on July 23rd. Chili is a short-haired, male orange tabby who's adorable and healthy. He's an All-American boy who's very outgoing and adventurous. He loves to jump, play and explore with his sister, Kiki, who is a short-haired pastel tortoiseshell/tabby mix. She's also playful, healthy and very feminine with the sweetest little face. Kiki tends to be a little more shy until she feels reassured. A gentle chin scratch and back rub does wonders and she's ready to show her approval with her little tail and rear-end in the air!

It would be wonderful to keep this little team together, if possible.  They will make wonderful pets and seem to be quick learners.  They have their kitten shots and will soon be spayed and neutered before they go off to a loving new home.

If you are interested in opening your heart and home to Chili and Kiki or would just like a little more information about these two cuties, please call Donna at (831) 425-7785 or email me at dgiubbinifineart @ sbcglobal.net.

Sheera

Sheera had a long stay at her foster home but it was worth the wait. She has ended up with a fantastic home. Her new guardians fell in love with her immediately and knew that she’d brighten their lives. They are retired and have a dog now that was aching for a companion. She really found paradise and….she’s only blocks away from her foster mom so she’ll continue to get the attention of her other companions. What a lucky girl!

Clark

Clark was adopted on October 27th, 2005. His new family consists of a dad (John), a mom (Shannon) and two feline siblings (Harry and Ally). Clark is one lucky dog! He gets to go to work with Shannon every day, go for several walks, and then come home and play with his new kitty friends. Wow! Clark is a sweet soul, who took things into his own hands or paws and found himself the perfect family. Congratulations to all!!!!!

Lucca

Lucca was adopted by his foster mom, who couldn't bear to see him leave. Looks like he's found a wonderful home!

Petey

Petey was rescued from a northern California shelter in June. His guardians gave him up because of a death in the family. By the end of the month, Petey was adopted by Carlene who fell in love with the guy in the first few minutes of meeting. Carlene had adopted a little dog from CAPE in '99. Martha passed away recently, at about 19 years old. Enter Petey into Carlene's life. Carlene tells us:
" Petey is the world's best dog."
" He has a great time wherever he is."
" He gets along with everything and everyone."
" We are going to have a great life together I can tell."
" Just wanted you to know how happy we both are!"
Thank you Carlene for opening your home and your heart to another senior dog. Petey, you are one lucky guy!

Esmeralda

Esmeralda (or Essy as she’s also known) has found her forever home. After a long search for just the right family, she’s landed with an amazing family that cherish her and honor her wonderful personality. Essy came to CAPE from a Bay Area shelter that was not going to put her up for adoption as she was a little too shy. It turns out she just needed a loving home and someone to trust. She really came into her own at her foster home as we watched her trust again and begin to really enjoy life. She’s continued that journey into her new home. She will spend her life with two young children and a mom and dad that not only adore her but love her to sleep on the couch. Now that’s what we call a perfect fit!

Daphne

Our sweet little Daphne was adopted on May 15, 2005. Her new guardian Pat , is already in love with her. Daphne is being treated quite well, with several walks each day . She is also meeting and greeting all her new neighbors in their little forest community. Pat says Daphne brings great joy to her life! We are confident that their relationship will be a very long, happy one, sharing life's blessings together. We feel fortunate to place such a loving dog in the hands of such a loving person.

Lupita

After being in foster care for two months, her foster mother knew that she did not want Lupita to be adopted by any one other than herself. A "conference" with the other dogs and  cats in the house confirmed that Lupita should stay. What a wonderful edition this little one is! She brings sweetness and light to all people and animals who come in contact with her. Although she is only seven months, she does not exhibit the usual dreaded "puppy" behavior.  Perhaps this  is due to her having rather old dogs for role models. She does enjoy her daily hour-long romps, trips in the car and visiting new places and people.  She is a trouper!

I feel blessed to have this gentle soul  in my family.  I am grateful to all those who helped save Lupita . It truly was a group effort.

Chloe

On Sunday February 6, 2005, Chloe went to live with her new mom and dad, Lori and Richard. Chloe was rescued from Jaurez, Mexico by the Compassion Without Borders project. She had severe eye infections and was nursed back to health at Animal Place, an animal sanctuary in Vacaville, Ca.. She was fostered for three weeks before going to her permanent home. Although her journey was an arduous one before being rescued, Chloe's life is now secure and filled with happiness. She goes to the dog park
nearly every day, and loves that both Mom and Dad can work from home, and shower her with attention all day long. Chloe likes to snuggle with her new family. She also likes to run through the house, throwing her favorite toy up in the air and catching it before it hits the ground.
We are so thankful to Lori and Richard for giving this beautiful little girl the life that she deserves. Congratulations to everyone involved in saving this precious dog!

SOPHIA

Sophia, another wonderful doggie that came to us from our Mexico airlift, went to a wonderful home today. Annie lost her poodle last year, at the age of 14, and was ready to open up her heart for another canine companion. She fell in love with Sophia very quickly. In fact, we only had Sophia in our foster care for a day when they happened to meet through the recommendation of a local groomer. The rest is history. Sophia is in her new home and doing well.

This lovely girl had a very tough history before coming to us. Then she had to endure the long trip to the US, quarantine and foster care. Now, she's finally getting to settle in. It takes some time but it's such a joy to see the happy families and happy dogs unite for a committed future together. After just a short time, that tough transition seems just a dream.

Abby

Abby has found her forever home!! Brenda fell in love with Abby from the moment she saw her picture and, after meeting her, knew this was meant to be. Abby shares her new home with Brenda’s two teenage daughters and her 2 dogs, Trixie and Pooka. Abby needed a home with other dogs as she so wanted to frolic and play. She’s found it and is fitting in nicely.

Abby had a very rough start in life and has come so far in such a short time. Her life was saved and now she’ll be in a home where she can continue to flourish; our little delicate flower. Thank you, Brenda, for opening your heart and home to this wonderful little girl.

Sophie

When CAPE went to take a look at Sophie at a local animal shelter, she was hiding in the back of her kennel. She was not going to make it out of the shelter as she was viewed as “too shy.” She was shaking and scared. She was tense when you held her, full of confusion but you could tell she wanted so much to be loved. We could see a real glimmer of what she could be if we could get her out of the shelter. So, CAPE rescued her and put her into a foster home. Within 24 hours she was already beginning to blossom. She got a little spring in her step, began playing with the other dogs and learned quickly that snuggling on the chair with her foster mom was the ultimate in comfort. She had become a gem of a dog already in such a short time. It was clear she needed to move on to her permanent home quickly so she could really blossom. The possibilities were great. Sophie quickly got into a new and fantastic home. Her new human, Jeannie, was absolutely smitten the moment she met Sophie. It was clear that this little girl would flourish with her and that this is where she was meant to spend her life. This is one of those adoptions where you just know the two were meant for each other. Sophie is, in fact, blossoming and has fallen into the family’s daily rhythm like she had always been there. It is so wonderful to see her transformation

Sophie is yet another example of what love, patience and hope can do to save the lives of these amazing animals.

Zoe

On November 14th 2004, Zoe went to live with Barry, Cindy, their son Jack, their dog Jake and their cat Bronson. After less than a week, Zoe seems to have settled in completely with her new and forever family. Of course, life doesn't get much better than this: a "mother" who takes you for hikes every day and brings you along on almost every outing; a wonderful sweet dog to play with all day and a young child > to romp with. The Dinsmore's are very happy to have Zoe as part of their family. Her sweet nature and amazing spirit have won their hearts.

Ariel

On October 15, 2004, Ariel went to live with  her new family who live on a mountain top  where the house is surrounded by the homes of grandchildren.  Not only does Ariel have daily walks with Betty and constant attention  but also she has visits from the neighboring grand and great grandchildren and their dogs. I can't imagine a better life for this sweet mature little lady. Betty says that she has settled in easily and seems very happy. Thank you for opening your home to Ariel.  It sounds as if she is a perfect fit!

Rosa

Rosa had a tough start being abandoned outside a Bay area shelter. Because they were overcrowded when she was taken in, she was very close to not making it out. Luckily CAPE had a foster home open and was able to get her a loving place to rest after the stress of the shelter. Rosa is a tender and sensitive girl and the shelter was hard on her. After a few weeks, a little training and lots of love, Rosa went up for adoption and very quickly found a most wonderful home with Martin and Pnina. They saw Rosa’s photo and bio on the CAPE site and called immediately. They couldn’t wait to meet her. Everyone quickly fell in love at the first meeting. It was easy to see from the moment they all met that this would be Rosa’s forever family.

Sometimes it’s hard for us foster moms to let these little babes move on, especially with all the trauma they’ve had to endure. But seeing the overwhelming love and dedication the new parents offer truly makes that anxiety quickly wash away. Rosa is a little ambassador for all the hopeful animals in our nation’s shelters. We CAN make a difference one animal at a time.

Melon (Finnigan)

Melon, whose new name is now Finnigan, has found his forever home with Nicki, Ian and his new canine pal Sniff. Sniff and Finnigan have become fast friends and they spend their days playing tug of war with an assortment of toys and lounging around on the couch. He tells us that life is so great now and he especially wants to thank Lisa, his CAPE foster mom, for her wonderful TLC.

Chip

On February 13, 2004, Chip was adopted by Sally and Reid. Their household included an older sweet dog named Dingo and four pampered cats. The new guardians and Chip’s foster parent have all been amazed at how easily Chip adapted to his new permanent home. After spending the first night pacing and exhausting everyone, Chip relaxed and seemed to sense he was in a loving home, well suited to satisfy all his needs. Sally gets up before the sun rises to give Chip his morning walk and then she is off to work. After breakfast, Chip gets to “hang out” around the house with Reid who works from home. If Chip feels like being outside, he can walk around his enclosed acre or just lie around in the grass. He has a dog to play with and cats to watch over. The afternoons are highlighted by a second walk. Reid takes both Dingo and Chip out to meet other dogs in the nearby vineyard. Most evenings are spent with the entire “family” gathered ‘round. If life sounds pretty ideal for Chip, it is; he is one happy dog. Thank you to Sally and Reid for including Chip in your family.

Doggy

As the year 2003 wound down, Doggy took things in his own hands (well, paws) and made it very clear that he would be living permanently with his CAPE foster family, thank you very much. End of story!

Gizmo

Adopted!

Danke, Aidan and the new member of the family - Simon

Simon

On September 16th, Simon went to live with the perfect family for him. He has a dog to hang out with, a charming young man to play with, four cats to keep him occupied and a guardian who adores him. Simon made an easy adjustment from his foster home to his permanent one. Annie, his guardian says he is gentle and loving and a wonderful addition to the family. Simon is indeed fortunate since his guardian works out of her home and can give him the love and attention he so much craves. Another happy ending or more aptly put - a new beginning for Simon.

MARTHA

Sweet, adorable Martha is a one-year old, 60 pound, female Terrier who is looking for a forever home, preferably with children and at least one other dog. She is very well behaved; she walks easily on a leash and has been taught very good manners. Martha is quiet, house-trained and an absolute sweetheart. She has all her vaccinations, has been tested negative for heartworm and has been spayed. Call us at 831-426-2214 for more information.

Adopted!

Two sweet girls from Mexico City seeking forever homes.

Both have been adopted! Welcome to the US, girls.

Palousa, the top dog, is a shy and gentle female who needs lots of TLC and reassurance. She'll be a loyal friend once you earn her trust.

Breezy with the big ears is an adorable, intelligent 10-month old puppy who will probably be about 40 pounds when full grown.

Miguel with Lisa and Jim

Miguel has found a happy home in Santa Cruz, arriving there on May 2, 2003. His adjustment took some time, and was hindered by traumatic and major surgery only a week after arriving at his new home. However, he has recovered very well, and has charmed many of the good folks at Pacific Veterinary Hospital along the way. Now that Miguel is recovered, he is energetic and loving, seemingly anxious to make up for the lost time of his earlier life. He loves to go on long walks, takes his job of taking care of his new home and family very seriously, is attached to his stuffed squeaky hedgehog toy, and plays with his new cat-siblings, Elmo and Calvin, whenever they will tolerate it. Miguel also loves to go for rides in the car, and he recently enjoyed his first visit to the beach. We waited a long time for the right dog, and with CAPE 's assistance we have found him. We love our Miguelito.

Lisa, Miguel's guardian

Peke with Danny and Lori

On March 19, 2003, Peke went to his new home. According to his new guardians, Peke ?spends 99% of the time snoozing in the living room or gnawing on a bone, and completely ignores the back yard. I suppose it will take him a few weeks to get used to having the freedom to go in and out at will?. Peke has finally arrived at his forever home with lots of people to pet him, an active social life, and lots of walks, bones and adoration. WELCOME HOME, PEKE!

NACHO

On January 14, 2003, Teddy and Valerie adopted Nacho.

They first saw him on the CAPE web site, and were taken by Nacho's appealing demeanor. When they came to visit Nacho at his foster parent's house, they knew almost instantly that Nacho was the right companion animal for them. Nacho is very lucky since he will be going to work with Valerie everyday. Other than that he will be busy taking walks, going to training class, and settling in as an integral part of his new family.

Nacho was one of the dogs CAPE air lifted from Mexico City. It is heartwarming to think that he will now have a very good life where he will be cherished and loved.
