Dottie
Don & I had our very special Shasta who went everywhere with us since she was a tiny puppy. We had her for 16 years and vowed never to get another dog. We both love dogs but could not bring ourselves to get "attached" to another and our hearts were truly broken when she died. Over the years, we would look at pictures in the paper and even went to visit a dog at the shelter but it just wasn't right. After 9 years, we just happened to be at the Dominican Hospital and saw Dottie - previously named Aurora and said "what do you think"? After some pondering and worrying, we made the call. When we met her, she was very thin but had a sparkle in her eye. We were hooked! It took a little adjustment for us all, as Dottie is a senior dog and we also are seniors. But she has become a very nice addition to our little family.
She loves other dogs, loves the grandchildren, and really loves her 2x a day walks around the neighborhood. She also loves her biscuits! She still has a way to go but we think she is happy and we certainly are. She is very independent, as we believe she had spent most of her life chained in someone's backyard, but she watches for us and follows us around just like a puppy. Did I mention she is also deaf and between 8-10 years old? Despite that, she is learning new things every day. She wants to please and it doesn't take much with us!
