Milky Way
This 8 lb. male miniature pinscher is so adorable and well behaved that every person who meets him falls in love. Milky Way (his name when we rescued him) has tons of charisma. He is great with dogs and cats, and he is particularly charming with humans of all ages. Despite his difficult life over the past 2 years (he lived in a crate because his family had become homeless) he is exceptionally well behaved. He is house trained, quiet, and would love nothing more that to sit on your lap or ride sitting next to you in the car. Milky Way is a true gentleman. He is neutered, healthy and around six years old. Milky Way is ready to meet his new, permanent family where he is included in all activities.

Gummi
and Jasper
Gummi and Jasper are
sociable and affectionate big kittens. Gummi (shorthair, female)
is 6 months old, and Jasper (longhair, male) about 9 months. They
are best friends. They posed serenely for the photo, but in real
life are full of energy. They love all people and other animals.
Both are happy to sit by your side or to chase balls and toy mice.
They insist on sleeping in bed with their foster parents.
CAPE rescued both kitties from an animal shelter in October, when
the shelter chose to euthanize all black cats rather than risk
their being adopted to people with unethical Halloween plans.
Gummi is named for the tarry goo she was covered with when she
was brought to the animal shelter. She is now shiny and soft.
Jasper has always been a softie, but his mane is particularly
plush right now. If you want a special pair of young cats, these
two are your perfect companions. We'd like them to be indoor only.

Gus
Our friend Gus is big
and beautiful, isn't he? He is a maine coone mix, sweet with people
he knows, sometimes shy with strangers. He is young and energetic,
1 or 2 years old, and loves to be petted. He has probably not
reached his full size. Gus would prefer to be an only cat, the
king of the roost, but coexists ok with most other cats. He is
big and strong, sometimes with an attitude. He will reward you
with love and companionship if you are willing to give him a couple
of weeks to adapt in your home, as he did in his foster home.
In a short time, he will be part of the family. Please call 831-728-8800. |

Thompson
Green-eyed
Thompson has such a fabulous personality! When you walk into the
room, he jumps up on his hind legs to greet you. He loves new
people and even new places. His face and his cute white paws are
irresistible. At the veterinary hospital, doctors, techs, and
receptionists all fell in love with him. The veterinarian said
he had never seen a cat so friendly immediately after anesthesia.
Alas, other cats fail to find him such a charmer. Therefore, he
would do best as an only cat.
We don't know his age since he was found stray, but we guess him
to be in the 6-10 year old range. He is as playful as a kitten,
and more energetic than most adult cats. Watch him chase balls!
His energy and long lean body allows him to leap nimbly to high
places. Meet him for yourself, and you will see we aren't exaggerating!

Ei
Ei
This sweet kitty’s
name, Ei Ei, reflects her delicate voice. It’s true that
black cats, even ones with a little white at the throat like Ei
Ei, have wonderful personalities. She loves to cuddle or just
curl up in your lap. She gets along well with other cats, and
with her mild manner, probably with dogs, too. Ei Ei is most appreciative
of her rescue from the Watsonville Shelter. She is a spayed female
shorthair who loves to be brushed. Her good health and perky attitude
make her seem younger than her eight years of age. She would adore
being part of a family, and is ready to lavish affection on everyone
in her home.
Please call us at CAPE at (831) 336-4695 for more information
about this beautiful girl. |

Kirby (A132880) Hound, Pointer mix
What a wonderful dog! This energetic, athletic, up-beat boy is going to make some lucky home very happy. If you're looking for a couch warmer, this probably isn't a good match for you. Kirby wants to run and play and do all the things a dog at this age with this wonderful physique would be expected to do. He is great with other dogs, interactive but respectful of cues and body language, but might be an annoyance to an older, less active resident dog. If you jog, hike, walk, bike, go to the dog park, Kirby is a real find. He has a very sweet, tender way about him unlike many very active dogs who have severe cases of ADD. He just loves everything and everyone and wants to celebrate being alive. He's been with us for quite some time (none of us can figure why) so don't wait. He'll love you for eternity for coming to his rescue.

Evita (A132056.) Chihuahua
What a sweetheart. This very peppy senior lady was surrendered because a 2-year-old child in the home was cornering and terrorizing her on a regular basis and she started to nip at the child in her own defense. She was adopted from us by a wonderful family with other dogs in the home but Evita's tumultuous recent history left her less than ecstatic about sharing her life with a pack of critters so the adoptive home tearfully brought her back to us for a better placement. This is a WONDERFUL dog, a hands down staff favorite, and would make a wonderful companion for a mellow home with no small children and no other dogs. The previous adopters spared no expense in taking care of all of Evita's dental needs so she is spit-shined in all areas and ready to make her next landing spot her last one. Help make this fabulous dog's golden years her best ones yet.

Brandi
( A129451) Pit Bull Terrier
What a dish! This delightful
girl is super dog-social (loves to play!) and equally responsive
to her handler. She is everything a Pittie should be: energetic,
fun, smart, resilient, bidable, responsive, interactive, sensitive
but resilient. She learns quickly and listens well (especially
if you have a treat). She gets amped up for play but can snap
out of it quickly. Perfect! If you have a resident play fiend
that likes contact sports, this girl could be the perfect addition
to your pack.
Smart Pit Bull people
always recommend dog-dog matches of the opposite sex so a boyfriend
for Brandi would be great (although she gets along with everyone,
currently). She does downtime well, too, given the proper physical
and mental stimulation every day. She is affectionate with humans
and just so incredibly sweet. She showed no signs of food aggression
or possession and would make a wonderful family dog for an active
home. She'd probably make a wonderful jogging and/or hiking partner,
too, with a little leash training. Brandi has some Demodex (non-contagious
mange) from having been stressed and neglected before coming to
us. This is very common in the Bull breeds and with proper nutrition
and monitoring by your vet, she'll look
as perfect as she is in no time. |

Molly (A133088
) Jack Russell Terrier

Bogie (A132653) Boxer
Bogie is a beautiful, energetic, larger-than-life boy. He is VERY Boxer and a dog-savvy (and preferably Boxer-savvy) home is what this guy needs. He is very tactile (he is a Boxer, after all). He is fun and playful and would make a great match for an active adult home. He is very mouthy and has never been taught any manners so he needs to go to a home without children. Adopters should be committed to solid leadership and basic obedience/training. Bogie has been waiting here for a long time and needs his guardian angel to step up to the plate. He is a beautiful boy (don't forget the sunblock!) and is full of fun and ready to be molded. He likes to play with other dogs but can get amped up if the play goes on uninterrupted for too long so he should go to a home wihtout dogs or with a very well-matched resident dog that knows how to be democratic and how to lay down the law at the same time. No weak handlers for this boy. He's a diamond in the rough just waiting for that special someone.

Autumn
(A128809) Pit Bull Terrier, Boxer mix
This sweet creature
came in totally shell-shocked and pregnant to boot. She delivered
her puppies soon after arriving at the shelter. The puppies were
fat and healthy and started to drive Autumn crazy towards the
end. Now that the pups are weaned, Autumn is in a foster home
of her own. Whew! She is living with between 4 and 6 other dogs
(depending on the day) and lived with a cat in her previous foster
home. She is wonderful with other dogs and was fine with the cat
that didn't run. She will chase cats (all in good fun) if they
run from her. She is also living with a respectful, dog-savvy
5-year-old kid and doing very well although she is more fearful
of small people than adults. Autumn is still very young herself
and wonderfully athletic when she's free in the park, running
and jumping through the bushes like a rabbit. She loves to chase
and be chased, is very playful but responsive to other dog's cues,
treat-motivated, which makes for easy training, and incredibly
tenderhearted and affectionate. She can still be fearful and shy
and needs continued confidence building. Under no circumstances,
even when she was terrified and withdrawn at the beginning, has
she ever shown any aggression. She improved by leaps and bounds
in her very dedicated previous foster home and we have no doubt
she'll continue along that path. She will be spayed soon and made
available for adoption then.
